Hello! I'm Shaela
About Me
I have always been a writer. Growing up I would write elaborate short stories and make plans for a million novels that I never finished past the first few chapters. I wrote poetry in the stolen moments of time between classes and when waking from a dream that I just needed to get down on paper. I used to insist that I was a fiction writer, and would only be a fiction writer.
However, I fooled myself and ended up finding myself travelling down a new path of writing when I switched my degree in University to become a journalism major, and in 2020 graduated with a Bachelor of Communications Degree with a major in journalism.
Throughout my time as both a student and working journalist I found passion in travel and exploring the world as well as finding a focus for my writing ambitions. Although I still have those childhood aspirations of becoming a novelist (and I don’t have plans to give up on that goal!) I have found a fire inside to tell the stories of women across the world.
As a plus sized, feminist writer I also love to write about body image issues in today’s society. I want to explore the world and the body, beauty and cultural standards expected and imposed on women across the globe. I want to amplify their voices and experiences.
This will also be a growing process for me as I learn to embrace myself and my body, a process which I’m certain that exploring the borders of Bold Lines will only enhance.
Bold Lines are thick, Bold Lines define, Bold Lines tell bold stories, and I hope that you take the time to come along on my journeys with me through my writing and more.
